Norilsk State Industrial Institute (NSII) is the most northern Higher Educational Institution in Russia. It was established in 1961 as Norilsk Evening Industrial Institute. In 1987 it was reorganized into Plant-Technical college of Norilsk Mining and Metallurgical Complex in the name of A.P. Zavenyagin and in 1991 it was reorganized into Norilsk State Industrial Institute.
In 2002 the Institute was included in the Unified State Register of Juridical Persons as a State Educational Institution of higher professional education “Norilsk State Industrial Institute”
In 2011 by the order of Ministry of education and science the Institute was renamed into a Federal State Budgetary Educational Institution of Higher Professional Education “Norilsk State Industrial Institute” (NSII).
The constitutor of the Norilsk State Industrial Institute is the Russian Federation.
Function and power of the constitutor of NSII are performed by Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation.
The Institute has 2 faculties: the faculty of Mining and Technology and the faculty of Power Engineering, Economics and Management. These faculties consist of 14 departments and 9 of them are graduating. Also the Institute has Polytechnic College, Center of qualifications improvement and professional retraining, Informational technology center, Scientific-research department, Publishing department, and Precollege education center.
The Institute offers more than 35 programs of study in technical and economic fields and prepares the students of bachelor and specialists. Approximately 400 faculty members and employees work at the Institute. Since the moment of its establishment NSII has graduated more than 15 000 qualified specialists.
Besides, 39 educational and 1 research laboratories operate at the Institute. The library of NSII is one the most important part of this Institute. It’s an immense literary center. The library of NSII has a lot of scientific, technological and general literature. Also library gives students an opportunity to try their hands in literary society.
Norilsk State Industrial Institute has cooperation with Polar and Finnish branches of CJSC MMC “Norilsk Nickel”, Harjavalta, where the best students have the practical training.
